Batting great Sunil Gavaskar opened up about the retirement of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter MS Dhoni from the Indian Premier League (IPL). He believes that keeper-batter's farewell will be similar to Sachin Tendulkar at Wankhede, which was emotional.

The ongoing game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai might be the last game for MS Dhoni in front of the Chennai crowd. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side is playing their last League game at home and there are chances that they might not qualify for the playoffs.

The ongoing IPL 2024 is expected to be the last season for MS Dhoni in the league. The keeper-batter last year after winning the title confirmed that he will be playing one more season for the fans. Ahead of the ongoing edition of the league, he left the captaincy and passed on the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad, which almost confirmed that it might be his last season.

In the past, MS Dhoni had mentioned that he would be playing his last game at the Chepauk because Chennai had given him a lot of love. With Chennai Super Kings playing their last game at home and also the franchise asking fans to stay back after the game, it has made many speculate about Dhoni's retirement.

Sunil Gavaskar while talking about MS Dhoni's retirement stated that it would be emotional if Chennai Super Kings lost the game. He wished to see keeper-batter sixes in what might be his last game and expressed his desire to see Dhoni ending his career on high. Speaking on Star Sports, he stated:

"I’d love to see him come and smash a couple of sixes. Obviously that running between the wickets with that leg won’t be there. But it’s going to be emotional, I mean as the match progresses they will know where the match is standing whether CSK is going to win or RR is going to win.

"I think it is going to be emotional just like when Sachin Tendulkar played his last match at the Wankhede Stadium. I just hope that MSD also goes out on a real high."

Chennai Super Kings favorites to win the game against Rajasthan Royals

Chennai Super Kings are looking favorites to win the game against Rajasthan Royals. They were asked to field first and they displayed magnificent performance with the ball. On a pitch, that seemed slow, they didn't let Rajasthan Royals batters settle in and score big.

Jos Buttler (21) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) gave a powerful start to their team and it seemed that they would post a big total on the board at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After that, they pulled things back incredibly well and put the Rajasthan Royals under pressure.

Simarjeet Singh picked three wickets while Tushar Deshpande also bagged two wickets as Chennai Super Kings restricted Rajasthan Royals to a total of just 141 runs. With the kind of batting lineup they have, they would be keen to chase the target quickly.
