IND vs IRE: "Have Seen My Family Face Financial Struggles And I Wanted To Help Them Overcome Them Through Cricket" - Rinku Singh

Young batting sensation Rinku Singh shared his struggling cricket journey, saying that he dedicated immense effort to earn a spot in the Indian team in international cricket. Rinku Singh highlighted that playing for the national team was his dream come true moment.

Rinku Singh was named in India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Ireland. The left-handed batter received his cap just before the start of the series opener in Dublin on Friday, August 18. However, he didn’t get the opportunity to bat for India in his debut game.

I Have Worked Very Hard To Reach Here – Rinku Singh

Speaking to JioCinema, Rinku Singh revealed that he made the decision to pursue cricket as a profession a decade ago. Singh said he wanted to fulfil his parents’ dream of seeing him represent the country.

“It is a nice feeling (being part of the Indian team setup) because I have worked very hard to reach here. I picked up cricket almost 10-12 years ago and the one goal my parents set for me was to represent the country,” Rinku said.

“They felt IPL is played by so many but only a few get picked for the Indian team so they wanted me to make the most of my opportunities in IPL and get to the Indian team. And now their dream is about to come true,” he added.

The 25-year-old performed exceptionally well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He scored 474 runs in 14 games with an impressive average of 59.25 and a strike rate of 149.53. However, he was left out of India’s squad for the West Indies tour.

My Family Had A Massive Role In My Journey – Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh revealed that his family supported him during his cricket journey despite facing financial challenges. The young batter expressed his desire to assist aspiring cricketers in overcoming similar challenges.

“I have seen my family face financial struggles and I wanted to help them overcome them through cricket. That desire to get them out of the grind kept me going. It kept me motivated to work hard and keep up my efforts,” he further added.

“My family had a massive role in my journey to date. When they didn’t have enough to fund my career, my mother borrowed money from others to keep me going. Where I am today is because of the support I have got from them,” he concluded.

Rinku Singh will next be in action during the second T20I against Ireland at the same venue on Sunday, August 20. The Jasprit Bumrah-led team is leading the series 1-0 and will be aiming to secure the series victory before the final match.
