Star Indian openers, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have moved ahead in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings after they played a 165-run partnership in the fourth T20I match of five-game against West Indies on Saturday (August 12).

In the fourth 20-over match, Shubman Gill played a 77-run knock from 47 balls with a strike rate of 163.83. He hammered three fours and five sixes. This helped the 23-year-old move up 43 places in the rankings and is currently placed at 25th position, which is his career best.

In February, Shubman Gill played a 126-run knock against New Zealand in Ahmedabad which helped him to hold the 30th place on the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings.

Shubman Gill faced a lot of criticism after he failed to score runs on the West Indies tour, however, he answered his critics following his stupendous knock in the fourth T20I match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the 20-year-old star batsman who had a stunning Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season with Rajasthan Royals (RR) made his debut in the third T20I match against West Indies, where he failed to make a mark. But the player made no mistake in his second T20I match.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 84 runs from 51 balls with a strike rate of 164.71. He hammered 11 fours and three sixes in the second inning of the fourth T20I game. Jaiswal made a huge jump and climbed up thousands of places and reached the 88th spot.

Both Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal helped the Men in Blues to clinch a nine-wicket victory against West Indies in the fourth 20-over game of the series.

But in the fifth and series decider match, Hardik Pandya-led India displayed a disappointing performance in both innings and lost the match by eight wickets which stopped them from getting the series victory.

In the first inning of the fifth T20I match, both the openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill had a sloppy start and could not score a double-digit run. But Suryakumar Yadav led the batting lineup and played a 61-run mark from 45 balls and gave a target of 166 runs.

In the second inning, the Indian bowling attack failed to take wickets and the Caribbeans took the opportunity to get a 3-2 series win.

Currently, Shubman Gill has been rested but Yashasvi Jaiswal has been called for the forthcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland which will start on Friday (August 18). Jasprit Bumrah will lead India in the 20-over series since Hardik Pandya has been rested.
