"An outstanding left-handed opener"- that's what comes to mind when we think about Yashasvi Jaiswal. Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the emerging openers in Indian Cricket, who has already made his debut for Team India.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is a left-handed batsman who only plays as an opener. The youngster can also bowl right-arm spin, however, he has only bowled a few overs and limited himself to batting. He plays for Mumbai in the domestic circuit and Rajasthan Royals in IPL.

Jaiswal made his international debut in the Test series against West Indies in July 2013. In his first-ever game in the Carribean nation, the left-handed batter stormed a ton (171) to script history books.

Early Life and Career

Yashasvi Jaiswal was born on December 28, 2001, in Suriyawan town of Bhadohi district in Uttar Pradesh. His father, Bhupendra Kumar Jaiswal was a shopkeeper while his mother Kanchan Jaiswal was a housewife. He moved to Mumbai at the age of 10 to pursue his dream of cricketer.

Jaiswal made it to the Under-16 Mumbai squad in 2015, his first break after playing school cricket. Later, he was selected for the India Under-19 team and also played U-19 Asia Cup 2018, where he won the Player of the Tournament.

Later, the left-handed also played in the U-19 Cricket World Cup 2020, where he again stole the Player of the Tournament award. Later, he made his first-class debut for the Mumbai team in the Ranji Trophy in the 2018-19 season.

IPL Career

In the IPL 2019 mega auction, the Rajasthan Royals franchise captured Yashasvi Jaiswal. The franchise retained him and helped him to grow. He made his IPL debut in the 2020 season, sharing the opening slot with Aussie legend Steve Smith.

Jaiswal started slow but continued to grow as a batter in the next seasons. In the 2023 edition, he shattered 625 runs at 163+ strike rate with 1 century and 5 half-centuries. The RR opener ended as the 5th highest run-getter in the season and the leading run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals.

International Career and Records

His IPL performance set the stage for his national debut in the same year. Jaiswal traveled to West Indies for India's first series in ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 and stormed a ton in his debut game. He made the headlines by breaking multiple records on his international debut.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has played a few Tests and T20Is for India. He has slammed centuries in both formats and looks like a promising talent for the national side.

The left-handed grabbed the limelight in the India vs England Test series in Feb-March 2024 when he mustered 712 runs in 5 Tests to win the Player of the Series award. He also recorded a double ton in the series.

The Indian opener hit the headlines after becoming the second Indian batsman to smash the most runs in a Test series, following Sunil Gavaskar in the top spot (774 and 732). There are no doubts that Jaiswal is an emerging opener and will grab a lot of success in the coming years.
