"Charismatic Chinaman"- the best two words to describe Kuldeep Yadav in Indian cricket. Kuldeep Yadav has been an impeccable spinner for Team India across all three formats. He was out of the national side for a few years but made a classic comeback to cement his place in the Indian team once again.

Kuldeep Yadav is a left-arm spinner who bowls wrist-spin. He made his international debut in 2017 and has retained his place in the side over the years. He has also played in some ICC tournaments and grew under the captainship of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Early Life and Career

Kuldeep Yadav was born in Unnao City in Uttar Pradesh on December 14, 1994. His father Ram Singh Yadav was in a brick-making business and his mother Usha Devi was a homemaker.

Yadav grew up in Kanpur with his three sisters. He practiced under his childhood coach Kapil Pandey, who advised him to change his bowling from pace to spin. The left-armer played with the Uttar Pradesh domestic team since 2009.

Kuldeep Yadav's first biggest break in 2012 when he was captured by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2012. He later impressed with his performances for over five years and finally made his international debut in 2017.

International Career

Kuldeep Yadav made his international debut in March 2017 during a Test series against Australia. In the same year, he also made his ODI and T20I debut against West Indies and Afghanistan respectively.

Yadav also played a key role in ODI World Cup 2019 alongside spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. He grabbed a hat-trick in the tournament to achieve an amazing feat in

International Cricket.

After Covid-19, Yadav lost his place in the national side in 2020 and 2021. He played a few games but emerged too expensive. As a result, selectors went out for other spinners on the national side.

However, the Chinaman spinner hit the domestic circuit and worked with his childhood coach to settle his loopholes. He returned to the national side in 2022 and grabbed 8 wickets in a Test match. Later, Yadav booked a berth in Asia Cup 2023 and ODI World Cup 2023 with his stunning show.

IPL Career

Kuldeep Yadav was a member of Mumbai Indians in the 2012 season. Later, he played with Kolkata Knight Riders from 2014 to 2021. In the 2022 mega auction, he was captured by Delhi Capitals and has been a prominent spinner for the side since then.

The crafty spinner has executed a decent show in IPL since the 2016 season when he made his debut in IPL. He picked 6 wickets in 3 games in the season. Later, he went on to grab 12 and 17 scalps in the next two seasons.

In 2022, he picked 21 wickets for Delhi Capitals with four 4-wicket hauls, his best show in any IPL season. Yadav is a crucial spinner for Team India who is often picked across all three formats.

Records

Kuldeep Yadav also has a few records to his name. He was the first Indian bowler to register a hat-trick in the U-19 World Cup. He also became the first Indian bowler to capture two hat-tricks in international cricket. He is also the first left-arm spinner to grab a 5-wicket haul in a T20I match.
