Ishan Kishan is an Indian cricketer who operates as a left-hand wicket-keeper batsman for the Indian National team. Born in Patna, Bihar, Kishan is known for his aggressive approach, and exquisite ability to thrash the ball with his sensational pick-up shots.

He is also very famous for his power and range-hitting ability and for sending the ball far into the stands. Ishan Kishan is a depiction of a true modern-day wicket-keeper batsman, who is capable of batting anywhere in the order.

Although the top-order remains as his most preferred position, Kishan is best known for his antics with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. His professional career started 10 years ago in 2014 when he made his domestic debut for Jharkhand.

Born to a builder Father in Patna, Ishan Kishan had moved out from the city during his teenage all because of his cricketing aspirations. Due to registration disputes between the Bihar state board and the BCCI, Kishan's father Pranav Kumar Pandey, took him to neighbouring state Jharkhand wherein Ishan has played all of his domestic cricket.

Ishan Kishan made his debut for the Jharkhand state team on March 7, 2014, during a Vijay Hazare trophy match against Odisha. Kishan had scored a very good 44 off 75 balls on his debut match in Ranchi but was unlucky to get run out, just 6 runs before scoring a half-century but Jharkhand had won the match regardless.

After impressing on his debut List A season, Ishan Kishan was called up to feature for Jharkhand in that season's Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. He made his T20 debut against Tripura at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in West Bengal but was unfortunate to get out for a 2-ball duck but his team had still won the contest by 11 runs.

Months later, Ishan Kishan also made his First-class debut for Jharkhand against Assam on December 14, 2014. Kishan had opened for Jharkhand on his first red-ball match and he scored 60 off 126 in Guwahati where the match came out with no result and had remained draw.

He first came onto the radar when he scored 69-ball 87 runs against Saurashtra in a rank-turning pitch at Rajkot in 2015 after scoring 5 half-centuries and a century on his debut Ranji season.

In 2016, Ishan Kishan led the Indian U-19 team in a tri-series against Sri Lanka and England in English conditions. A few months later, he was appointed as the captain of the U-19 team for the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh wherein his team finished as runners-up to the West Indies.

That very year, Kishan was acquired by (now defunct) IPL franchise Gujarat Lions for 35 Lakhs when he was aged 17. After playing just 5 matches on debut, Kishan played 11 matches in 2017, scoring 277 runs before moving to the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2018 season.

His career spiked from then onwards as he started getting more game time which helped him score a lot of runs. Kishan was also a part of the MI team which won the IPL titles consecutively in 2019 and 2020 and at the moment, he is a key part of the team.

His performances in IPL led to an India call-up in March 2021 when he made his T20I debut against England at Ahmedabad. On his debut, Ishan Kishan played out a 32-ball 56-run knock at a strike rate of 175. Later in July, Kishan made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on July 18 where he scored 59 off 42.

2 years later, Kishan was called up for his debut Test match against West Indies in which he remained not out at 1 with India winning by an innings and 141 runs.

Later on, he made appearances in the Asia Cup 2023 which India won against Sri Lanka in the final. His most notable knock there was 82 he scored against Pakistan in the opening match.

Ishan Kishan was dropped from the Cricket World Cup playing XI after playing India's first two group stage wins against Australia and Afghanistan in Chennai and Delhi. But his career took an unexpected turn in the latter half of 2023 when Kishan was sent back to India right before the last phase of India's tour of South Africa.

Kishan had asked for a mental health break and didn't want to play the 2-match Test series where he was anyways going to be benched. Upon his return, he flew to Dubai for his brother's birthday party which did not go well with the BCCI.

Later on, Kishan was overlooked for India's home T20I series against Afghanistan and then for the 5-match Test series against England. Ishan Kishan was advised to play for Jharkhand in the 2024 Ranji Trophy but due to his constant resistance, the board and the management got very frustrated.

In response to his actions, Ishan Kishan was eventually dropped from the annual player retainership or the central contract list of BCCI along with Shreyas Iyer. As he finds himself out of the Indian team, Kishan is currently playing IPL 2024 with Mumbai Indians. He will look to stage his return with an impressive season.
