Ishan Kishan pulled off a brilliant stumping to dismiss North East Zone batter Ashish Thapa on Day 2 (Monday, August 24) of the ongoing Duleep Trophy quarter-final match. Kishan fumbled the initial take but quickly recovered and removed the bails before Thapa reached the crease.
East Zone posted a massive total of 467 runs in their first innings at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. North East Zone’s top order then showed good resilience against experienced pacers Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar, reaching a total of 68/2 at tea on the second day.

The dismissal came on the second ball of the 21st over. Medium-pacer Abhijit Sarkar delivered a full ball down the leg side, and Ashish Thapa moved forward to whip it across the line. He missed the delivery completely, giving Kishan a chance to complete the stumping.
Ishan Kishan, who had moved up to the stumps for Sarkar, initially fumbled the take. However, he quickly recovered and collected the ball on his second attempt. Thapa had lost his balance while playing the shot and remained outside the crease before Kishan removed the bails.
The third umpire confirmed the dismissal after checking the replay. Kishan’s decision to stand up to the stumps paid off, as he turned a difficult chance into a wicket with quick reactions. The dismissal gave East Zone an important breakthrough.

North East Zone Battle Hard Against Experienced Pacers
East Zone’s pace attack, led by Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar, bowled tight lines and lengths with the new ball. Under cloudy skies in Bengaluru, both pacers found movement in the air and off the pitch. Joseph Lalthankhuma and Arpit Bhatewara had to defend carefully against the experienced duo.
Joseph struggled more than Bhatewara and played and missed several times before Mukesh dismissed him. He chased a wide delivery without moving his feet and edged it to second slip. Ashish Thapa then joined Bhatewara and looked more comfortable at the crease.
Abhijit Sarkar replaced Mukesh and continued to create movement, although his pace was lower than the opening pair. Ishan Kishan later stood up to the stumps for Sarkar and stumped Thapa. Bhatewara and Kishan Lyngdoh then survived the remaining spells to take North East Zone to 68/2 at tea.
East Zone Recover from Early Setbacks to Post 467
East Zone posted a commanding 467 in their first innings after adding 112 runs to their overnight total. They had slipped to 25/2 early after losing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Abhimanyu Easwaran, but Kumar Kushagra and Sudip Kumar Gharami added a 92-run partnership.
Kushagra scored 55 runs before Akash Choudhary struck twice in quick succession. Pheiroijam Jotin Singh then dismissed Ishan Kishan to reduce East Zone to 138/5 at lunch. However, Gharami continued to hold the innings together and turned his fifty into a superb century.
Gharami and Shahbaz Ahmed added 150 runs while initially batting cautiously against the pacers before attacking the spinners. Gharami eventually scored 146 off 185 balls, while Shahbaz took control after his departure and produced a magnificent 164.
East Zone kept adding runs through the lower order to move beyond 450. The North East Zone attack could not maintain pressure long enough to stop East Zone from reaching 467.
