BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has opened up on the feasibility of hosting matches in Oman. Oman and the UAE would be the venues for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place from the 17th of October to the 15th of November. Jay Shah believes co-hosting the World Cup would be a significant step for Oman to enter the global stage.

Oman, qualified for the mega event in October, is clubbed with Bangladesh, Scotland and Papua New Guinea in Group B of the first round of the qualifiers. Six league games of the group are likely to occur in Muscat and Oman Cricket Academy Ground remains the only venue in the nation.

On the other hand, group A fixtures of Sri Lanka, Ireland, Namibia, and the Netherlands could take place in Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi, one of the venues for the second phase of IPL 2021, would have completed their share of hosting the matches, with the last of it on the 8th of October. The tournament will finish a week later than that.

Jay Shah, who launched the competition earlier in Muscat, stated he felt delighted to be in Oman and believes in promoting the associate nations. The BCCI Secretary wishes to take the sport deeper into Asia and underlined that co-hosting the World Cup should give Oman more recognition. Shah also hopes for Oman to get past the qualifiers and reach the main draw.

“I am particularly delighted to be in Oman. As a major force in world cricket, the BCCI has always endeavoured to promote and assist Associate Nations. In my capacity as Asian Cricket Council President, my vision is to take cricket far and deep into Asia. Co-hosting the World Cup will put Oman Cricket on the global stage. They are also playing the Qualifiers and it will be an icing on the cake if they make it to the Super 12s,” Shah said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
