Former Indian cricketer and current Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor, Gautam Gambhir, has yet again hit the headlines over his take on football superstars Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Last December, Gambhir’s response to a Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo question sparked a meme fest on social media. Actually, during a live event, Gambhir was asked to pick between Messi and Ronaldo, and he replied without taking any time, "None. I think I would go for Rashford."

Marcus Rashford, who plays for Manchester United, was the surprising choice, as he was asked to pick between the all-time greats Messi and Ronaldo. However, the 2011 World Cup winner went with Rashford, and it led to social media users creating memes and sharing them widely on the internet.

Gautam Gambhir yet again loses his cool on the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo question

Now, amid the glamour of the ongoing IPL 2024, Gambhir once again lost his cool when this matter was raised in a Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) podcast. Actually, on the podcast, the KKR mentor was once again faced with the same question, asking him to pick his favorite footballer between Messi and Ronaldo.

This time, Gambhir decided to clarify the statement that he gave last year, and he even picked a better player between Messi and Ronaldo on the podcast. However, the former Indian opener stood by his past statement about his favorite footballer.

Gautam Gambhir said on the KKR Podcast: “So these are memes. It's good you've asked me this question. I've never understood this theory. Someone asks, which is your favorite team? Liverpool or Arsenal. If you're asking me which is my favorite team, you can't give me an option.

You can't give me an option. I may say, which is your favorite colour? Black or blue. His might be grey. How can I give you an option? The point is, which is your favorite color? If I don't have both, what can I say? You can say that you don't have both. You'll say, which is your favorite player? I don't agree.”

When the hosts recalled him picking Rashford over Messi and Rashford, Gambhir said that he didn’t like both the legendary footballers, and that’s why he went with the Manchester United star. In the end, Gambhir admitted that Ronaldo is a better player than Messi.

The KKR mentor added, “Yeah, but I don't like both of them. Then what do I say? None. If I like Rashford, I like Rashford. Anyways. They should have asked me, Messi or Ronaldo? Who's a better player? Then I could have answered, Ronaldo.”

Speaking about the ongoing IPL 2024, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), led by Shreyas Iyer, have so far had a good campaign, having won four of their six games so far in the tournament. They are currently placed in the second spot in the IPL 2024 points table and will next face RCB at Eden Gardens on Sunday, April 21.
