Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered an injury scare in the 36th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. All-rounder Sunil Narine was hit by a toe-crushing yorker delivered by left-arm pacer Yash Dayal during the ongoing match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis opted to bowl first after winning the toss at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, April 21. The Bengaluru-based franchise made three changes to their lineup in a must-win encounter. Cameron Green, Mohammed Siraj, and Karn Sharma returned to the team.

The RCB team's decision to bowl first backfired as opening batter Phil Salt scored 12 runs off Mohammad Siraj's first over, including a six and a boundary. Sunil Narine stepped up to bat in the second over but faced discomfort after Yash Dayal's precise yorker almost caused an injury.

Yash Dayal executed a perfect leg-stump yorker, catching Sunil Narine off guard. Narine attempted to block, but the ball struck his right toe before he could react, causing him visible pain. Narine sought immediate medical attention, limping off for treatment as the physio rushed to assist him.

Sunil Narine is currently in exceptional form in the IPL, having scored 276 runs at a strike rate of 187.76 and taken seven wickets in the first six matches. He scored a remarkable century against the Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens. However, he was dismissed for just 10 runs off 15 balls.

Virat Kohli Teases Sunil Narine Before The Match

Earlier, Virat Kohli entertained fans by pretending to bowl the first over for RCB. He removed his cap and handed it to the umpire. He amused Sunil Narine by imitating the Undertaker's signature slit-throat gesture. Kohli then resumed his position, as Mohammed Siraj started bowling.

Virat Kohli's performance has been remarkable in the IPL 2024. He has scored 316 runs, including a splendid century and two half-centuries. His century came against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). He wants to replicate his success as he prepares to chase their target in the ongoing match.

Momentum Can Be Back And We Do Have Fire Power - Faf du Plessis

Despite RCB's slim chances of reaching the playoffs, captain Faf du Plessis remains hopeful for a turnaround. Du Plessis said that they want to regain momentum with their firepower.

"We will chase. This is probably a chasing ground, always has been. I'm a fan of batting first when it's really hot, but the temperature did drop after an hour or so yesterday, unlike in Mumbai or Chennai where it stays very hot. The batting is so strong that a general score or 60-70 isn't considered great during the batting PP. We have three changes - Green and Siraj come back, so does Karn Sharma. We know if we do a few things back, the momentum can be back and we do have the firepower," Faf du Plessis said.
