Lance Klusener Appointed As Head Coach Of RPSG Group-Owned Durban-based Franchise In CSA T20 League

Former South Africa National Cricket Team all-rounder Lance Klusener has been appointed as the head coach of the RPSG Group-Owned Durban-based franchise in the new T20 league of the Cricket South Africa (CSA).

The inaugural edition of the CSA T20 League is scheduled to take place in January-February 2023 and all the six franchises in the tournament have been acquired by current Indian Premier League (IPL) team owners.

The owners of Mumbai Indians have bought the Cape Town franchise, Lucknow Super Giants owners have purchased the Durban franchise and Chennai Super Kings owners have bought the Johannesburg franchise.

Also, Sunrisers Hyderabad owners have bought the Gqeberha franchise, Rajasthan Royals owners have acquired the Paarl franchise and Delhi Capitals co-owners have acquired the Pretoria franchise.

In a statement released by the RPSG group, on Monday, Lance Klusener said that being appointed as head of the Durban-based franchise is a new challenge for him.

“This is a new challenge for me. It makes me very proud. I am looking forward to meet the team,” Klusener, who has played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs, said.

The 50-year-old brings a good amount of coaching experience with him. Lance Klusener was previously the head coach of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team. He was also the batting coach of the Zimbabwe National Cricket Team from 2016 to 2018, before rejoining the side earlier this year.

He had also worked with South Africa as their assistant batting coach in 2019 and in 2015 he had a short stint with South Africa’s senior men’s side.

In franchise cricket, he had worked with Mumbai Indians in IPL 2011. He was the head coach of Rajshahi Kings in the BPL. Also, he had worked with Khulna Tigers in the BPL and with Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.
