Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka had a series to remember, emerging as the winning captain after the hosts sealed the T20I series against India in Colombo. Sri Lanka stunned the tourists by restricting them to one of their lowest scores in the T20s. Dasun Shanaka acknowledged he is fortunate to lead his side as players have given it all to become the best team.

India’s captain Shikhar Dhawan departed in the first over for a golden duck after choosing to bat. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who opened the innings with the skipper, was the only one to reach double figures amongst the top five. Wanindu Hasaranga started tormenting the visitors from his first over itself, removing Sanju Samson and Gaikwad.

Kuldeep Yadav proved to be India’s highest scorer as India managed 81 on the board after Hasaranga’s 4-0-9-4. Though Sri Lanka’s run-rate remained on the lower side, with Rahul Chahar taking all three wickets to fall, the target was too few to create any panic. Eventually, Dhananjaya de Silva and Wanindu Hasaranga took Sri Lanka to their first T20I series victory since October 2019.

Dasun Shanaka started by thanking BCCI to let their players play under such circumstances and did the same to Rahul Dravid and Shikhar Dhawan. The 29-year old stated all the players have worked hard and doing it to become world class and be excellent at what they are doing. Shanaka heaped praises on his players for thriving under pressure by handling pressure. He hopes for them to prosper further by taking all the learnings from here.

“I should thank the BCCI first of all to play under such circumstances. Also, thanks to Rahul And Shikhar. I have got the bowling option, so I can use them well in the middle. Not only my fielding, all the boys are working really hard on their fitness and they want to be world class. You can see all the players performed and handled different situations. I am lucky to lead this team. When a low score is set, it’s good if we can get a good start. Still, the players are young, they are learning and they will be really good in future,” Dasun Shanaka told in the post-match presentation.
