Irfan Pathan has blamed Hardik Pandya for Mumbai Indians' poor performance in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The former India allrounder made the remarks after Mumbai Indians' four-wicket defeat against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday (April 30).

The defeat has all but sealed Mumbai Indians' fate in the ongoing IPL 2024. Their chances of progressing to the playoffs are extremely bleak now. At present, the five-time IPL champions are languishing at the ninth spot in the points table with just three wins from 10 games. Even if they go on to win their remaining four league games, they are unlikely to make it to the next round.

Mumbai Indians failed to come up with a clinical effort against Lucknow Super Giants as well. Asked to bat first, they could post only a modest total of 144 for 7 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians lost the wickets of Rohit Sharma (4), Suryakumar Yadav (10), Tilak Varma (7) and Hardik Pandya (0) for just 27 runs inside the powerplay and just could not recover.

Nehal Wadhera top-scored for the team, scoring 46 while Ishan Kishan (32) and Tim David (35*) played crucial knocks as well. In reply, Lucknow Super Giants chased down the total in 19.2 overs with Marcus Stoinis' 62-run knock making the difference.

Irfan Pathan slams Hardik Pandya:

As Mumbai Indians suffered another defeat in the ongoing IPL 2024, Irfan Pathan pinned the blame on Hardik Pandya for their poor run in the competition. Soon after Mumbai Indians' loss against Lucknow Super Giants, the former cricketer-turned-commentator took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his views on what has gone wrong for the Mumbai-based outfit this season.

He highlighted that Mumbai Indians managed to make it to the playoffs last year even without their talisman Jasprit Bumrah before highlighting that Hardik Pandya's poor captaincy is the reason behind their dismal show this season.

"The team Mumbai Indians that qualified last year didn’t have Jasprit Bumrah but this season they had his services. Still, they are in this situation. Purely because the team wasn’t managed well on the ground. Too many mistakes by their captain Hardik Pandya. It’s the truth," Irfan Pathan said.

This is not the first time this season that Irfan Pathan has taken a dig at Hardik Pandya. Earlier, he had stated that the Mumbai Indians skipper's hitting ability had gone down. He had also criticized his death bowling as well as captaincy last month.
