Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians hosted the Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, May 6.

The all-round Mumbai Indians thumped Sunrisers Hyderabad by 7 wickets to register their 4th win in IPL 2024 and move to the 9th spot on the IPL 2024 points table.

Bowling first, they restricted SRH to 173/8, with Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla shining with 3 wickets each. During the run-chase, MI lost 3 quick wickets but a batting masterclass from Suryakumar Yadav ensured MI successfully chased the target. The batter slammed 102 runs off 51 balls and finished the match in 17.2 overs.

At the post-match presentation ceremony, Hardik Pandya lauded his batters but wasn't satisfied with the performance of his bowling unit. Hardik Pandya stated:

"We want to focus on playing good cricket, still think we gave 10-15 runs extra. The way our batters batted, that was excellent."

Hardik Pandya further talked about his bowling and said that he likes to bowl in the right areas and it worked for him against SRH. Hardik Pandya also lauded veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla for his heroics. Hardik Pandya said:

"My bowling, I like to bowl in the right areas, I bowl according to the situation. Bowled in the right areas today and it worked. I was like Chawla had to bowl from the shorter side. He (Chawla) had to be accurate, the margin of errors have become smaller these days for the bowlers."

Hardik Pandya was left in awe of Suryakumar Yadav's unbelievable batting performance and credited him for the victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hardik Pandya said:

"It's unbelievable, the best past of SKY is that he puts the bowlers under pressure. It's sheer confidence, his game has changed, is one of the best batters. He can change a game in a different way, lucky to have him (SKY) in our side."
