How MS Dhoni Shut Deepak Chahar With A Brief Response

Everyone knows when MS Dhoni operates he is a king on the pitch. He is authoritative as a captain and knows how to use his players. MS Dhoni plans the matches and wins the games in his mind and has a brilliant reading of the game. However, there have been times when he had to shut young players, in an ongoing match.

Dhoni, the CSK captain, has groomed quite a few youngsters including the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohit Sharma and Deepak Chahar in the IPL. Chahar, sharing his experience of playing under Dhoni, said that there was a match where he wanted to bowl at the death as he could rake up the 140kmph mark and didn’t get enough opportunity. But Dhoni denied with a brief response.

“Generally you don’t give the old ball to bowlers who have pace of 120-125 km/h but when I was playing for RPS and even for CSK I was bowling at around 140 but still he didn’t give me the ball in the death,” Chahar told Chopra in his show Aakash Vaani.

“I had asked this to Mahi bhai. He gave me a two-word answer and then I couldn’t say much. So I asked the bowling coach a couple of times, he also said I should be bowled in the death overs. Finally, I gathered some courage and asked Mahi bhai when he was sitting in a room. He said, ‘I groom players’ and that’s it. He didn’t say anything else,” Chahar added.

Dhoni understood the game well. He knew the strength of the side and backs his players accordingly. He did not takes any kind of frivolous decisions and likes to maintain his calm. It is due to these qualities Dhoni came up as one of the most calm and composed character on the cricket field.
