Former Indian left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha believes that the confidence that India would have gained following Test series wins in Australia and against England at home will play a huge role in the upcoming English summer.

Virat Kohli’s men endured a memorable winter as they scripted a historic triumph in Australia despite all the odds stacked against them before obliterating England on home soil.

The No.1 ranked Test team in the world will now be looking to win the inaugural ICC World Test Championship by beating the Kiwis besides scripting their maiden series win in England since 2007.

The Asian giants’ performance in England in the last decade has been horrendous, to say the least. The Men in Blue got whitewashed 0-4 in 2011 before losing the subsequent rubbers by a margin of 1-3 and 1-4 in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

But according to Pragyan Ojha, the kind of confidence that the team is carrying at the moment and the manner in which they have performed in the last 7 months, no team in the world will take them lightly.

”The confidence and the kind of cricket India has played in the recent past will be a big factor. No one in the world will take it easy against this Indian side,” said Pragyan Ojha during an interview with Rediff.

Ojha further reckoned that the World Test Championship result could have a major impact on the five-match Test series against England.

“India has a very fair chance this English summer. The WTC result will have a lot of impact in the England series,” he added.

When asked to name the players that could have a major impact, Pragyan Ojha picked Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and the pace-bowling duo of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah.

”Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be very important factors,” he added.
