Moeen Ali, England’s top all-rounder, responded to Deepti Sharma’s run out of Charlotte Dean at the non-end striker’s during the third One-Day International between England and India at Lord’s.

Deepti Sharma gained global notice over the weekend when she bowled Charlotte Dean for the match-winning final wicket of the innings during the third ODI of the series at Lord’s.

Moeen stated that dismissing a batter at the non-end striker is not difficult, and he would not do it unless he was “very angry” with a batter.

“No, it is not my forte.” I do not think I would do it unless I was extremely mad at someone. It is in the laws, and there is nothing unlawful about it, so those who do it have the right to do so, but I just hope it does not become a common occurrence or something that is done regularly,” Moeen said, as quoted by Telegraph.

“You are not working hard enough to obtain a wicket.” At the very least, there is some work to be done with a run-out, as well as with all the other dismissals. This is simply waiting for the person and removing the bails. Even though I used to play cricket in the garden as a kid, it is not my thing” Moeen said, as quoted by Telegraph.

You should be in your crease anyway: Moeen Ali

Moeen Ali goes on to claim for a prohibition on dismissals and then proposed an alternative.

“To be fair, you should be in your crease anyway, but it is a tricky one.” You do not pay attention to the bowlers. “You feel like they are there and about to bowl, but if they stop, your momentum might take you out of your crease,” Moeen Ali explained.

“I genuinely believe they should get rid of them.” We were talking about it the other day, how would you do it, because guys would (pinch ground), but there should be a line where you can not go past, and you know how the umpires look for no-balls, they could potentially do the same for that and say, right, he is got one more, if he does it again, he is gone.”

The dismissal, known more popularly and informally as the ‘Mankad,’ had recently been changed from the ‘Unfair Play’ section to the ‘Run out’ section by the Marylebone Cricket Club, and was also sanctioned by the International Cricket Council.
