Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has claimed compensation from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the expenses after the hybrid model of the Asia Cup 2023 as per the reports in Cricket Pakistan. The tournament took place in August-September earlier this year in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Asia Cup 2023 was originally slated to take place in Pakistan. But BCCI wasn’t keen to send the Indian team to Pakistan. This led to tournaments being played in the hybrid model. Pakistan hosted 4 games whereas Sri Lanka was host to 9 games including the final as well, which was won by India.

Matches being played in Sri Lanka and Pakistan saw teams apart from India changing venues. Chattered planes were kept for all the teams and now PCB has asked for expenses related to that. The governing body has clearly mentioned that it was ACC’s decision so they should take care of additional prices.

The reports suggested that flight tickets were booked through the Sri Lankan company Classic Travel. It is learned that the expense of $281,700 was used for four chartered flights and all the money was demanded in advance. MC member Mussadiq Aslam had asked for securing arrangements from the travel agent before full payment. He also suggested selling vacant seats on the plane to fans to reduce expenses.

But it was denied as arrangements were not possible. The reports added that MC granted approval for flight booking with non pre-qualified agent and 100% payment. For the Asia Cup, PCB agreed to pay Sri Lanka $2,069,885. Fifty percent and then 25% of the amount were paid before the event. The rest of the dollars were to be paid under the contract.

ACC avoiding the payment of additional expenses to PCB due to a change in the schedule

As per the contract ACC has to pay a hosting fee of $250,000 to PCB apart from this tickets and sponsorship fees are separate. The estimated cost of the event was around $40,00,000.

Pakistan was earlier scheduled to host games only in Lahore but PCB included Multan as well. The reports added that the Asian Cricket Council is now avoiding payment of additional expenses because of this. They have stated that they wouldn’t be paying because PCB had only one venue in the schedule. The matter will now be included in the agenda for the next meeting.
