Iceland Cricket Challenges Pakistan Cricket Board For Champions Trophy 2025 Hosting Rights

Iceland Cricket has been in the news for some time now as they have repeatedly trolled the Pakistan cricket team and especially Babar Azam for the team’s current status in international cricket.

Pakistan made a league-stage exit from the ICC World Cup 2023 after their loss to England in their last league game. They lost five and won just four games in the tournament. One of their losses was against Afghanistan who defeated them for the first time in ODI cricket.

Pakistan are the hosts of the next Champions Trophy 2025 edition. Being the winners of the tournament in 2017, they have earned the hosting rights for the tournament. India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series for around a decade due to political tensions and several reports have claimed that the tournament can be shifted to Dubai.

Now Iceland Cricket have trolled the team saying that they too are interested in hosting the tournament. The letter was written on a lighter note which was a satirical take on the political tensions within the country which is making international teams think before touring the country with their security concerns in question.

Pakistan’s amateur performance in the World Cup gave Iceland Cricket reasons to troll the national team and even more Babar Azam.

In a recent tweet, Iceland Cricket trolled Babar Azam saying “What is something that still hasn’t gone back to normal after the pandemic?”, Iceland Cricket replied, saying: “The batting average of Babar Azam”.

Babar ended with 320 runs in the World Cup in nine matches, averaging less than 40. Babar Azam stepped down as the captain after the World Cup. The PCB also underwent changes with Mohammad Hafeez overtaking the team director from Mickey Arthur and former cricketer Wahab Riaz as the New PCB Chairman.
