The accommodation controversy surrounding the upcoming Asian Games 2026 has taken a fresh turn, with organizers hitting back at the allegations by saying that they have made arrangements for all registered athletes and officials.
The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organizing Committee (AINAGOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) issued a strong clarification after concerns reportedly raised by the BCCI and PCB over the accommodation arrangements for the Asian Games 2026.
The competition will be played from September 19 to October 4 across Japan’s Nagoya and other venues in the Aichi region. Earlier, Sunil Narine names toughest batter he faced, leaves out Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
BCCI unhappy with arrangements for Asian Games 2026
The Board of Control for Cricket in India was not satisfied with the facilities being offered to the cricket teams for the Asian Games 2026. An ANI report suggested that the board was even considering sending a B team if the accommodation and other facilities were not improved.
India is among the major cricketing nations to participate in the competition, so their concerns could not go unnoticed. Apart from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka are also reportedly among those not impressed by the proposed arrangements.
A Cricbuzz report revealed that the teams could potentially stay in a city and travel to the cricket venue by bullet train, live aboard a cruise ship, or use temporary marquee-style accommodation. These options have reportedly created discomfort among some of the leading cricket teams.
Organizers hit back at accommodation concerns
With the controversy making the headlines, the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) have now stressed that there is no shortage of accommodation for participants who have already registered.
The organisers said that more than 11000 athletes and 6000 officials who completed their registrations before the July deadline have already been provided with accommodation suitable for the Asian Games 2026 in Japan.
The Olympic Council of Asia said in an official statement: “Further to incorrect media reports regarding issues in securing accommodation for official Asian Games participants, the Olympic Council of Asia and the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) can confirm the following: All the 17,000+ athletes and officials that are registered for the Asian Games before the closing of Entry by Name in July have been provided with Games-appropriate accommodation.”
Asian Games in trouble?
They also made it clear that registrations are effectively closed, except in exceptional situations. This means organisers now have a fixed number of participants to accommodate as the Games approach. Amid this, CSK CEO dismisses MS Dhoni ownership rumours, addresses IPL 2027 future.
The statement further reads: “Unless there are exceptional circumstances, no further registrations have been or will be permitted. The final preparations are on track and progressing smoothly ahead of what promises to be the most spectacular Asian Games in generations.”
With less than a month remaining before the opening ceremony, the organizers are under growing pressure to ensure that the accommodation arrangements work smoothly. The Asian Games are expected to bring thousands of athletes and officials from across Asia to Japan for 16 days.
