Sri Lanka won the first game by 14 runs. Riding on Avishka Fernando’s 118 off 115 balls, Sri Lanka posted a 300-run total in the first innings. Dhananjaya de Silva and Asalanka also made valuable contributions with 44 and 72 respectively.
In reply, South Africa managed to score 286 runs. Aiden Markram made a hard-fought 96 off 90 balls. He kept South Africa’s hopes alive till the time he was at the crease. There were significant contributions from Temba Bavuma (38 off 53), Rassie Van Der Dussenn (59 off 59), and Heinrich Klaasen (36 off 31) as well. However, all of that went in vain as South Africa couldn’t cross the line in the end.

Sri Lanka made an awful start to the second innings. Kagiso Rabada, who endured a forgettable outing in the last game, took two wickets in a single over to leave Sri Lanka on the back foot at 18 for 2 in 5 overs. Mulder claimed another one in the next over to add further pressure.
Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka resurrected the innings and added 64 runs for the fifth wicket. However, the duo got out at crucial stages in the game. Asalanka managed to score 77 runs off 69 balls, while Shanaka scored 30 off 41.
Chamika Karunaratne made 36 off 23 lower down the order but the target was proved to be far from the reach. Tabraiz Shamsi starred with the ball, picking 5 for 49 runs in 7.4 overs, while Rabada ended with 2 wickets
