Former Australian cricketer turned analyst Tom Moody has made a massive suggesstion to the BCCI and Indian team overall that they should not rush Mayank Yadav to feature in ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Moody made this comment in the light of Mayank's sensational debut season, wherein he has already become Man of the Match on two occasions from 3 matches hasn't featured for LSG since April 7. The youngster had sustained a hip injury during LSG's clash against Gujarat Titans

The date of Mayank Yadav's possible return is not yet confirmed by the Lucknow Super Giants management as his hip injury is proving to be very serious.

The 21-year-old, who shot to fame in only his debut match against the Punjab Kings, felt some sort of tightness on top of his right hip while fielding in the 2nd innings against GT. Mayank was also able to bowl just one over in that match where he went on to concede 13 runs.

It was thought that Mayank Yadav was going to return for LSG in time for their clash against the Chennai Super Kings last night but he didn't. LSG assistant coach Lance Klusener had said before the match that he was unsure of Mayank's possible return.

But LSG did well without him as they picked up a comfortable 8-wicket victory over CSK. Lucknow have now gone level on points with KKR, CSK and SRH but are in the 5th spot due to a poor run-rate.

Tom Moody says people should not get over-excited about Mayank Yadav

While speaking to ESPNcricinfo in the post-match analysis of LSG Vs CSK, Tom Moody made some very good points. The Australian started off by expressing his first impression of the youngster, claiming that he was extraordinary on his first matches.

However, Moody said that people cannot get over excited about him right now and the Indian selectors, after seeing him bowl regularly at 150s, cannot think of him as an option for the T20 World Cup.

The former IPL winning coach in 2016 also highlighted the fact that Mayank Yadav got injured only after a few games and with that being said, he cannot be rushed into the Indian team.

"I’ve loved what I saw for a first couple of games, it was quite extraordinary to the point you want to see the replays of that game. But you cannot have a knee-jerk reaction and pick him in the World Cup, when he has only played two games and got injured." - Tom Moody said via ESPNcricinfo.

Moody unsure about Mayank's capability under pressure

Tom Moody went on to further claim that he is quite unsure about Mayank Yadav's capability under pressure and was also curious about his role in the long-run.

The 58-year-old said that Mayank is definitely one for the future but the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri-Lanka should be the edition wherein he should play and not the 2024 edition.

"You don’t really know what he’s capable of doing over a long period of time, under pressure and in different roles. Yes, he’s an absolute lock for the future, and look after the asset. For me, it’s the 2026 World Cup you should be looking at." - Moody concluded.
