T20 World Cup 2024: Canada squad for T20 World Cup announced, Saad Bin Zafar named captain

Cricket Canada unveiled its official 15-member squad along with five reserves for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday, May 2. Saad Bin Zafar will lead Canada in their debut at the T20 World Cup 2024, bringing a wealth of experience to the team.

Canada’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad features a blend of seasoned campaigners and promising young talents. This team mainly comprises experienced players, with only four members under the age of 30. Harsh Thaker, Nicholas Kirton, and Dilpreet Bajwa are among the young players, and each brings their own skills and energy to the squad.

Thaker and Kirton are integral parts of the Canadian lineup. Saad, the left-arm orthodox spinner, adds a wealth of experience to the Canadian team, while Aaron Johnson’s aggressive batting style will be crucial at the top of the batting order.

Additionally, left-arm seamer Kaleem Sana will lead Canada's bowling attack in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. Nikhil Dutta and Srimantha Wijeyeratne missed out on selection for the mega event, with Tajinder Singh included as a reserve player in Canada’s squad.

On the other hand, the all-round abilities of Bin Zafar, Thaker, and Dilon Heyliger will be key to Canada's chances of success in the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024. With a combination of experience and youth, Canada aims to make a mark on the global stage in their debut appearance.

Canada's T20 World Cup 2024 fixtures and Group Details

Meanwhile, Canada is placed in Group A for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, alongside cricketing powerhouses India and Pakistan, as well as Ireland and the USA. Canada will play their maiden T20 World Cup match against the USA on June 1 in Dallas.

Then, the Canadian team will face Ireland on June 7, Pakistan on June 11, and India on June 15 in the group stage matches at the multi-nation T20 tournament, which will begin on June 1 in the Caribbean and USA.

Notably, until May 25th, all participating teams are allowed to make changes to their squad. However, any changes that could be made after May 25 will need approval from the ICC's Event Technical Committee.

On the other hand, Group B consists of England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman, while the West Indies are placed in Group C alongside New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea. Group D features South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and Nepal.

Notably, 16 matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 will be held in Lauderhill, Dallas, and New York, while 41 matches will be played in the Caribbean across six different islands, including Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and Barbados.
