Pakistan’s seasoned opener Mohammad Rizwan has come to the defense of Indian batter, Virat Kohli, asserting that great players go through tough phases but manage to come out of it eventually.

Kohli’s downfall since the end of 2019 has been quite a tough sight for Indian fans. His last century came back in November 2019 against Bangladesh and although he has shown glimpses of his previous self, the 33-year-old is yet to strike form in any format.

Speaking about the prolific batter, Rizwan said he is hopeful that Kohli gets out of the rut and gets back to his run-scoring ways.

I will say that he is a champion player but at this stage, we can pray for him because he is a hard-working cricketer. And tough times do come and things do get easier too.

Every player has scored centuries and got out on pairs and this goes on. I can pray for him and I am hopeful that through hard work, he will control all the things,” Rizwan was quoted as saying to Cricwick.

Virat Kohli may be advised rest ahead of South Africa, Ireland series

After the conclusion of the IPL 2022 season, India will be playing against South Africa in a white-ball series at home. For the same, Kohli may be rested by the BCCI hopeful that he makes a strong comeback soon after.

In the ongoing IPL season, he has played 12 matches and scored just 216 runs at an average of 19.64. He has a solitary fifty to his name and a whopping 3 golden ducks to go along with it.

Although RCB is in the top four on the points table, the franchise has been hurt occasionally by Kohli’s slow knocks and they will be hoping he returns to form before the season concludes.
