"Treat This Just Like An Outing With Your Family": When Virat Kohli Advised Nervous Chetan Sakariya

As net bowlers for Team India’s training camp in Perth in preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup, Chetan Sakariya and Mukesh Chaudhary travelled with them.

The opportunity for the two young people to interact with some of Indian cricket’s brightest names was a memorable one.

With so many well-known players around, it’s natural for any newcomer to the Indian squad to feel anxious, and Sakariya was no exception. However, the left-arm pacer admitted that former Indian captain Virat Kohli consoled him and advised him to view this as simply another outing.

Chetan Sakariya talked up his conversation with Kohli exclusively to Sportskeeda.

He stated: “We used to stick close because Mukesh Bhai and I were very anxious when we went there. However, every senior player has a decent heart. Don’t be alarmed, Virat Bhai told me. Treat this like you would a family outing. Simply imagine that you are a member of the IPL (Indian Premier League).”

“It was a different experience altogether”: Chetan Sakariya

Chetan Sakariya, who comes from a lowly family, took his first ever business class flight when he joined the team for the 2022 T20 World Cup. Being able to spend more time with Virat Kohli and other Indian celebrities made it a special experience for him.

In fact, he was moved by how composedly the Indian celebrities managed the throngs of fans who pressed up against them to get photos.

In response, Sakariya said: “I clearly remember every single T20 World Cup experience. I travelled in business class for the first time, and it was an entirely different experience.”

“I was astounded by how calmly big stars like Virat Kohli managed their fans as they flocked around them for selfies and signatures. Only game legends can display such tranquillity, I realized,” Chetan Sakariya said.

Sakariya would have undoubtedly gained a lot by hanging around with the team’s superstars, even though India’s T20 World Cup came to a dismal end.
