"Virat Kohli Creates A Good Environment Within The Team, That Is His Plus Point Of Captaincy": Ravindra Jadeja

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja heaped praise on his captain Virat Kohli and talked about his maturity as the team’s leader since the time he has played with him in the Under-19 days.

Since MS Dhoni stepped down as the team’s white-ball captain in 2017, Kohli was made India’s captain across all formats. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India dominated the no.1 Test position in ICC rankings for nearly four years, and for the first time, the team won a Test series in Down Under in 2018/19.

However, the one thing that haunts Kohli’s captaincy career is his inability to win a coveted ICC trophy. India lost to Pakistan in the final of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and a couple of months ago they ended runners-up to New Zealand in ICC’s inaugural World Test Championship final. On both occasions, Kohli was the captain on the losing end.

Jadeja, who has been playing with Kohli since the duo emerged world champions with the Under-19 team in 2008, feels that Kohli creates a great environment in the team dressing room and also said that his captain has been matured over the years with his sole intention is to win matches.

“He (Virat Kohli) is always dominant, so, he creates a good environment within the team, and that is the plus point of his captaincy and he always looks to be aggressive on the field,” Jadeja told ANI. 

“Yes, I have been playing with him since under-19. He has matured now and is always positive. He always looks to win the game no matter with which team we are playing, whether we are playing a big game or just a normal series,” he added.

The 2021 IPL will resume soon after India finishes off with their Test series against England in September. The cash-rich league was suspended in May amid rising cases of COVID-19 in India and the tournament is rescheduled to be played in the United Arab Emirates, the same place where the ICC T20 World Cup will take the stage.

Jadeja said that playing IPL right before the World Cup in UAE will be a good preparation time for players as they will get acclimatized to the conditions.

“Yes, the IPL comes right after the England Test series so it’s good preparation before the World Cup. Plus, we are playing both IPL and World Cup in UAE, and I think the same venue helps us a lot. That will be good preparation before the World Cup,” he concluded.
