Team India skipper Virat Kohli has been in sensational form across all three formats of the game.

He had also led his nation admirably. However, former India spinner Bishan Singh Bedi feels Kohli still has a lot to prove as an Indian skipper.

Kohli had led India to nine consecutive Test series victories, a record set by Australia between 2005 to 2007. But it came to an end, as India lost the Test series to South Africa by a 2-1 margin.

Bedi hailed him for his hunger of runs across format but feels Kohli has still to do a lot make an impact in the match as a tactician.

“Let me be very honest. He is leading from the front as a batsman. Team is showing results,” Bedi told Firstpost.

“You talk about [former Australia captain] Steve Waugh; you talk about [former England captain] Michael Brearley. [They were] real thinkers of the game. He is yet to leave that impact. I want him to show that. He has not been tested yet.

“Kohli is phenomenal with his consistency. What I admire more about him is his intensity. He is very intense. He is frighteningly intense,” he added.

Bedi added he had been pretty encouraged by the Indian pace attack. However, he hoped the fast bowlers remain fit for the two upcoming grueling Test series in Australia and England.

“England is long, five Test matches. And Australia is four Test matches. Plus they will have exhausted a fair amount of their energies in the IPL (Indian Premier League),” he stated.

The Men in Blue will lock horns against England in a three-match ODI and T20I series in July before a five-match Test series in August.

India will be looking to win the series in England, and if that happens, it will be their first in more than a decade. The last series victory came way back in 2007 under the leadership of Rahul Dravid. India won the series 1-0 then.

Meanwhile, former World Cup winning skipper Kapil Dev has urged Virat Kohli to play some county cricket ahead of England tour. It will make him used to the English conditions. Kohli had a torrid time in England last time India toured there.

“If he can play a season or two in English county cricket there would be nothing wrong [with that] because if you want to be the best player in the world you have to get runs everywhere,” the legendary all-rounder was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
