Wasim Jaffer Identifies India's Weakness: 'When The Ball Is Old, It Is Fine, But They Have Troubled Batters'

Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer identified mistakes the team has to improve on, citing hitters struggling against left-arm pacers as one of the main concerns.
In particular, Virat Kohli had trouble during the England tour. The story of Rohit Sharma’s comeback was almost identical, and in the final two ODIs, Reece Topley twice outperformed the India skipper.
Despite a strong performance against England, it was obvious that the top order failed to make an impact in both the white-ball and red-ball games. Due to Covid-19, Rohit Sharma was unable to participate in the rescheduled Test, although Virat Kohli in particular struggled on the tour. The story of Rohit’s comeback was practically identical, and in the final two ODIs, Reece Topley twice outperformed the India skipper.
The most wealthy bowler in the just concluded India-England series was Topley, a left-arm pacer. He took six wickets in the second ODI, which India lost after attempting to chase down a modest 247, and he assisted England in putting the guests in danger in the third and final ODI in Manchester. In the last ODI, he had taken three wickets, including the prized victims Rohit, Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan.
‘They need to improve how they play left-arm seamers’: Wasim Jaffer
Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer identified mistakes the squad has to improve on, citing hitters struggling against left-arm pacers as one of the main concerns.
The former India Test player Wasim Jaffer believes management should bring in more left-arm pacers to give batters a chance to practice against them in the nets, citing the examples of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Trent Boult, and Topley.
“From a batting standpoint, India needs to work on their left-arm seamer strategy. Trent Boult, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Reece Topley being likely included in the series have been a source of concern. They must check off that box by procuring some Indian bowlers to bowl them in the nets.”
“The Indian batsmen have been bothered by those bowlers, which has been a concern because the ball is fine when it ages. Indian batters need to get better in this area moving ahead, in my opinion,” Wasim Jaffer said.
After India’s white-ball tour in the Caribbean, Kohli was given a break. Following that, India’s next tasks are a brief trip to Zimbabwe and the Asia Cup T20s, which may be held in the United Arab Emirates in August.
