Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings won their respective games on Sunday (April 14) in the ongoing IPL 2024. While KKR beat Lucknow Super Giants, CSK beat Mumbai Indians.
In the first game of the day, KKR beat LSG by eight wickets at the Eden Gardens. Asked to bat first, LSG finished their innings on 161/7 after being asked to bat first.
After Quinton de Kock (10) and Deepak Hooda (8) departed inside the powerplay, the likes of KL Rahul (39) and Ayush Badoni (29) got the starts but could not score big. Nicholas Pooran came up with a crucial 45-run knock towards the end to power LSG to a 160-plus total.
In reply, KKR chased down the total inside 16 overs thanks to an unbeaten fifty from Phil Salt. The home side lost the wickets of Sunil Narine (6) and Angkrish Raghuvanshi (7) inside the powerplay before Salt and Shreyas Iyer shared an unbeaten 120-run stand to take their team home. Salt remained unbeaten on 89 while Iyer scored 38.
In the other game of the day, CSK beat MI by 20 runs to register their fourth win of the season and first away win. Set a target of 207 runs, MI finished on despite an unbeaten century from their former captain Rohit Sharma.
MI were on 130 for 2 in the 14th over and were looking destined to chase down the total with ease before their innings got derailed. They lost four wickets in quick time to find themselves six down for 157 and the run rate took a beating as well. In the end, they could only score 186/6 with Rohit Sharma remaining unbeaten on 105.
Earlier in the game, half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shivam Dube as well as a brilliant cameo from MS Dhoni helped CSK post a big total of 206/4 after MI won the toss and opted to bowl first. Ajinkya Rahane (5) and Rachin Ravindra (21) could not do much with the bat before Gaikwad and Dube shared a 90-run stand for the third wicket.
While Gaikwad departed for 69, Dube remained unbeaten on 66. Dhoni came out to bat in the final over and scored 20 runs off just 4 balls with the help of three consecutive sixes to take CSK to a 200-plus total.
