Deepak Hooda is yet to impress with his performance in the national side but has gained some success in the Indian Premier League. Hooda has played a few games for the Indian Team but has yet to cement his place in the national team.
However, Deepak Hooda did impress with his short stay in the national side, and with his additional ability to bowl, he was looked upon as an impressive all-rounder. However, he struggled to showcase a consistent show in IPL for Lucknow Super Giants and allowed other young batters to outplay him.
Early and Personal Life
Deepak Hooda is known by the nickname Hurricane with his ability to smack runs at a high strike rate. He was born in Rohtak City in Haryana in April 1995. His father Jagbir Hooda supported his passion for cricket and he initially played for the Baroda Cricket team.
Domestic Career
Deepak Hooda was associated with only one team in the domestic circuit which is Baroda. He was part of the side till 2020 but due to a controversy and a fight with captain Krunal Pandya, he was snubbed by the board. However, he made a classic comeback in IPL and was picked by the Lucknow Super Giants franchise in the 2022 mega auction.
International Career
Interestingly, Deepak Hooda has already made his international debut for Team India. He has played 10 ODIs and 21 T20Is for the team. He made his international debut with a clash against West Indies in February 2022.
He also made his ODI debut in the same year in November 2022, just after India faced a semi-final exit against England in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. However, Hooda showed a horrible performance in IPL 2023 for Lucknow Super Giants; getting out for single digits in multiple games. As a result, selectors overlooked him for the national outings.
Franchise Career
Deepak Hooda made his IPL debut in the 2014 season for Rajasthan Royals. He played two seasons for the side. Later, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him in the 2016 to 2019 season.
In IPL 2020, Punjab Kings grabbed him into their squad and was picked by Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 season. Lucknow Super Giants in the mega auction in IPL 2022 and he is still part of the same franchise.
Over the years, he has played a total of 118 games in the Indian Premier League for various teams. Sadly, Hooda had another poor show in the IPL 2024 season with Lucknow, adding just 145 runs in 9 innings at an average of 18+. However, he smacked 1 half-century and held a decent strike rate of 138+ this time.
