During the ongoing Marsh Cup 2023-24 in Australia, South Australia player Henry Hunt faced a deadly injury. During, the South Australia vs Victoria encounter in Australia’s domestic ODI tournament, Henry Hunt was hit by the ball on his face.

Marsh Cup is Australia’s domestic ODI tournament, also known as Australia’s Domestic One-Day Cup. The tournament started last year on September 2023. It is being played in two phases. The first leg took place in September-October last year.

The second leg began on February 1. A total of 6 teams are part of the tournament. They are Queensland, West Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia, and New Zealand. The Marsh Cup 2023-24 final will take place on Sunday, February 25.

Henry Hunt is an opening batsman for the South Australia team in the Marsh Cup 2023-24. During an encounter against Victoria, he was severely hit on his face while fielding at mid-on. The event occurred in the 24th over of South Australia’s spinner Lloyd Pope.

Thomas Roger hit a shot towards mid-on. As Henry Hunt tried to collect the catch, the ball hit his nose through his hands. As a result, the Australian batter suffered a grievous injury to his face. The right-handed batter also bled on the field.

The game was halted for some time. Later, Hunt was escorted back to the pavilion. However, he was able to walk without support. Cricket.com.au shared the video of the event on X. Have a look at the video of the incident below.

Victoria defeats South Australia by 3 wickets

Meanwhile, South Australia lost the encounter against Victoria by 3 wickets. Batting first, South Australia posted 231-8 on the scoreboard. Openers Henry Hunt and Jake Fraser-McGurk failed to provide a good start, getting out for single digits.

Later, captain Nathan McSweeney added 40 while Harry Nielsen slammed 61 runs for the team. No.9 batter Harry Conway scored a brilliant knock of unbeaten 43 runs. Fergus O Neill picked the most 3 wickets for Victoria.

Later, Victoria openers Thomas Rogers (67) and Nic Maddinson (54) gave a stunning start to the team with their half-centuries. Later, one-down Marcus Harris also added 43 runs. Victoria lost 7 wickets during the chase, however, they managed to reach the target with ease within 45 overs.

South Australia takes the last spot in points table

After the defeat, South Australia has dropped to the last spot in the Marsh Cup 2023-24 points table. They have won just 1 game and lost 5 out of 6. On the other hand, Victoria is the table toppers with 5 wins across 6 games. They have 21 points with just 1 defeat so far.

South Australia will next face Queensland while Victoria will take on New South Wales. Both encounters will take place on February 14. Both teams will play their last game of the league stage. The Marsh Cup final will take place between the top two teams on February 25.
