Amid Retirement Talks, Former India Captain MS Dhoni Trains At JSCA Stadium - Watch Video

Amidst the retirement talks and uncertainty regarding his international career, MS Dhoni has continued to train as the former Indian skipper was recently spotted at the JSCA stadium. In a video, he can be seen training at the gym inside the stadium, maintaining the required fitness levels should he make a comeback in the national team.

While chief selector MSK Prasad said that they have moved on from Dhoni, the veteran cricketer has neither retired nor has he given any indication of moving away from the game.

Multiple reports have suggested that Dhoni is waiting for Rishabh Pant to fix his spot as wicketkeeper-batsman in white-ball cricket. He could make a comeback if the team management fails to ink on a wicketkeeper-batsman for the T20 World Cup which takes place next year.

In Dhoni’s absence, Rishabh has been given number of chances and will continue to get more opportunities as the selectors are looking at the youngster to succeed Dhoni across formats. In Wriddhiman Saha’s absence, Rishabh became a regular in Tests as well but was always expected to be dropped once Saha returned.
With Dhoni’s future uncertain, Rishabh has his opportunities in white-ball cricket He hasn’t played any competitive game since the semi-final of World Cup 2019, which took place in July.

Dhoni, if he makes a comeback, will have to play domestic cricket before selection. It has not been confirmed whether he will play for Jharkhand in upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He is set to play the next season of Indian Premier League (IPL) and it might serve as comeback tournament for Dhoni.

As for now, neither the team management nor the board know when Dhoni is expected to retire but as MSK hinted, the team management is ready to play without him. Dhoni had retired from Test cricket in December 2014.
