Someone’s loss is someone’s gain; well, it was said a long back and looking at Mayank Agarwal’s brief career graph, it seems so. The India opener played his debut Test at the MCG and didn’t take long before leaving a mark. As India was suffering because of the failures from the Indian openers, Mayank’s inclusion brought some hope along. Meanwhile, he has some kind words for his captain, Virat Kohli, post the Australia Tests.

‘The feeling is amazing’ – Mayank

Talking to TOI, Mayank said after the India National Cricket Team had won the Test series, Virat Kohli had asked him to hold the trophy. In his first outing in Melbourne, Mayank scored 76 in the first innings before hitting a gritty 42 in the second innings. Courtesy his contribution, India could pose a huge total in the first innings; eventually helping them win the Melbourne Test by 137 runs, and retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Even in the second Test, Mayank crossed the 50-run mark, as he scored 77 runs in India’s only innings in the Test. Having an average of 65 in two Tests, including as many fifties, Mayank is happy to contribute towards India’s historic win. He said,

“It is a big win for us. India’s first in Australia and the best part is that India are the first team from the subcontinent to win a Test series in Australia. The feeling is amazing. It is a proud moment for me and the team. I am still living in that moment. We are winners. The feeling is amazing,” Mayank Agarwal said.

Furthermore, the newly recruited opener talked about holding the trophy in his hands; and how much excited was he at end of the day.

“When we all were going to the victory podium to celebrate our title win, Virat Kohli stopped me and said – “you hold the trophy”. It was an incredible feeling. It is really a big moment for a cricketer. I am lucky to have lived that moment,”

Meanwhile, India and Australia will now face-off in the ODI’s, which are starting on Saturday (January 12th).
