Bangladesh fast-bowler Robiul Islam, on Tuesday, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.  The decision comes after Robiul struggled to get consistent games in the last couple of years. Since 2016, the pacer had played just two first-class and one List A games. On the other hand, he last donned the Bangladesh jersey wayback in 2014.

A prodigious bowler, who was tipped for greater heights, Robiul was Bangladesh’s last pace bowler to deliver a match-winning performance. He was Player of the Series against Zimbabwe in 2013 but injuries saw him falling down the pecking order. The emergence of the likes of Rubel Hossain,  Al-Amin Hossain and others pacers neant Robiul faded away way sooner than expected.

He made his Test debut at the iconic Lord’s in 2010 but could not never become a regular player in the team. Out of the 23 Tests that Bangladesh played since his debut and the last game, he managed to play in just 9.  In those 9 games, he picked up 25 wickets with the best figures of 6 for 71. He made his ODI and T20I debut in 2013 and played three ODIs and a solitary T20I, picking up a combined of 2 wickets.

He soon found himself out of favour with the national team as well as the domestic team before ending his career. In first-class cricket, Robiul picked up 224 wickets at an average of 30.78 while in List A games he accounted for 40 scalps.
