Ready for any challenge: Dhawan

Meanwhile, the Men in Blues will enter the tournament as one of the favourites and will have to hit strides from the word go. With the Indian Premier League (IPL) done and dusted, the players will take a few days off before reuniting to leave for the World Cup on May 22. They will play their warm-up games on May 25 and 28 before beginning their campaign. While many are of the opinion that change in formats can affect the mindset of the cricketer, Shikhar Dhawan smashed those claims just like his cover-drives.

The dashing southpaw said that there will be no problems to change the format. Also, the whole team is ready for any kind of challenges that will come their way during the showpiece event.

“It has been very positive because if you do well, you gain momentum. Apart from the IPL, I also had a good series with Australia. There is no issue in changing the format as it is all about the mindset, and changing that takes a minute. We are ready for any challenge that comes our way in the World Cup,” he said.

Speaking about his own game, Shikhar Dhawan stated that there is no need to change the style of play. He is focusing on doing the routine work of keeping calm and work harder to give the best shot. He also added that there is no need to be in contact with Rohit Sharma – his opening partner and that they know each other inside out playing together for so many years.

Furthermore, Shikhar Dhawan heaped praise on his bowling attack calling it a balanced one. India have gone with three specialist pacers – Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya will play the role of a fourth seamer while Vijay Shankar can come in when needed.

“We have a very strong bowling attack in Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami. This apart, we also have a good bowler in Hardik Pandya. This is a balanced bowling unit and that will definitely help the team. Bumrah is the number-one bowler at present and then we also have quality spinners. I feel that this team is very well balanced,” he concluded.
