CoA, BCCI To Discuss Miscommunication Issue In Hyderabad Meeting

In the wake of Murali Vijay and Karun Nair’s lack of communication allegations, the Committee of Administrators (CoA) is set to hold a meeting with the BCCI to discuss the issue is detail.

The national selectors as well as the BCCI are facing the heat for their handling of Murali Vijay and Karun Nair. While both were surprisingly dropped from the Test squad for the West Indies series, what made things worse for the board and the selectors was the claims by the duo that the selectors did not communicate with them.

Nair had claimed he hasn’t had “any conversations” with the India selectors and team management about why he didn’t play in any of the five Tests in England. The right-hander was part of India’s original 18-man squad for the Tests in England, but watched Hanuma Vihari, who was called up as a replacement during the series, being picked up ahead of him for the final Test. There were more surprises for Nair as he surprisingly couldn’t make it to the squad for the ongoing series against West Indies.

On the other hand, Vijay also said that he did not have any communication with the selectors.  He made the startling claims after being not included in the Test team for the ongoing series. Vijay was dropped from the Test midway through the Test series in England. The opening batsman had made 20, 6, 0 and 0 in the first two Tests of India’s five-match series in England. He then warmed the bench in third Test before being shown the door for the final two games.

He, however, soon found his form while playing for Essex in the county championship. The right-handed batsman made scores of 56, 100, 85, 80 and 2. But those performances counted for little as the selectors ignored him. Vijay then spoke about a lack of communication between the selectors and dropped players.

With the matter now bringing disrepute to the board, the CoA has decided to discuss the issue with the BCCI.

The meeting will be held in Hyderabad where the officials will focus on the behaviour and credentials of the senior players in the team. Ajinkya Rahane, Indian Test team vice-captain will also participate in the meeting.

Meanwhile, Nair and Vijay could be questioned by the BCCI for speaking publicly about the selection policy which is considered a violation of the ‘Code of Conduct’ for the centrally-contracted players.

“Obviously, the matter will be raised at the meeting. The BCCI has maintained that Vijay is not giving the true picture. Gandhi explained the position of selectors to Vijay in presence of team manager Sunil Subramanium,” a BCCI official said.

The officials will also discuss about India’s preparation time for the upcoming Australian tour.
