BCCI To Question Murali Vijay And Karun Nair For Breaching Central Contract

India’s discarded batsmen Karun Nair and Murali Vijay might land in waters for their lack of communication with the selectors comment. The BCCI is reportedly set to haul up the duo and seek an explanation.

As per reports, both Vijay and Nair have “breached the clause” for the centrally contracted cricketers. Not surprisingly, the comments have neither gone down well with the selection committee nor the BCCI.

Nair had claimed he hasn’t had “any conversations” with the India selectors and team management about why he didn’t play in any of the five Tests in England. The right-hander was part of India’s original 18-man squad for the Tests in England, but watched Hanuma Vihari, who was called up as a replacement during the series, being picked up ahead of him for the final Test. There were more surprises for Nair as he surprisingly couldn’t make it to the squad for the ongoing series against West Indies.

On the other hand, Vijay also said that he did not have any communication with the selectors.  He made the startling claims after being not included in the Test team for the ongoing series. Vijay was dropped from the Test midway through the Test series in England. The opening batsman had made 20, 6, 0 and 0 in the first two Tests of India’s five-match series in England. He then warmed the bench in third Test before being shown the door for the final two games.

He, however, soon found his form while playing for Essex in the county championship. The right-handed batsman made scores of 56, 100, 85, 80 and 2. But those performances counted for little as the selectors ignored him. Vijay then spoke about a lack of communication between the selectors and dropped players.

Well, the BCCI is not taking the situation lightly and ready to question the players for their comments.

“Vijay and Karun didn’t exactly do the right thing by speaking on selection policy. That is a breach of central contract. As per central contract, no player can speak about a just-concluded tour for 30 days. There is a COA meeting in Hyderabad on October 11 and this issue will be raised there,” a senior BCCI said.

Vinod Rai, the chief of Committee of Administrators, also rubbished the accusations and said that the ball is now in the selectors’ court.

“This is all rubbish. There has been no case of lack of communication from the selection committee. Our selection committee works independently. As far as players’ (Vijay and Karun) statements are concerned, we have left it on selectors to decide about them,” CoA chief Vinod Rai told media-persons on the sidelines of the CoA meeting on Saturday.

Meanwhile, MSK Prasad, chief of selectors, has rubbished the claims and said that the selection panel was well in touch with the players.
