Team India opener, KL Rahul shut all his critics with a well-made half-century during India’s second innings in the warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Meanwhile, CA XI posted a mammoth total of 544 runs in the first essay in reply to India’s 358. The tailenders frustrated the Indian bowlers as they stretched the innings with a brilliant display of batting. Aaron Hardie and Harry Nielsen starred with the bat doing the bulk of the scoring. Other batsmen also chipped in with useful contributions before Jasprit Bumrah cleaned off the tail.

In reply, India had to revamp their opening combination with Prithvi Shaw sidelined with an ankle injury. This came as a massive blow for the visitors as Shaw showed tremendous adapting capabilities during his 66-run knock in the first innings. With KL Rahul and Murali Vijay both out of runs, India were in deep waters ahead of the first Test.

However, the management can now breathe a sigh of relief as Rahul and Vijay both found some runs before the actual game begins. Especially with Rahul as there were murmurs of axing him from the playing XI following his poor show in the first innings. Rahul answered back all his critics with a majestic fifty to regain his confidence.

The Karnataka born batsman played some gorgeous looking shots before bringing his half-century with a brilliant pool over mid-wicket region. It was a short-pitch delivery from leg-spinner Daniel Fallins as KL Rahul pounced on going back to the crease to clear the rope.
