On Thursday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the playing conditions for its new 100-ball cricket format known as The Hundred, which starts in 2020. They have made quite a few interesting inclusions and exclusions to their chart with the bowling being able to bowl 5 balls or 10 balls in an over.

Speaking of the announcement, the official quoted that it is a historic moment for them to bring an all-new tournament into the game of cricket. They appreciated the hard work behind the scenes to make things fall in place.

Further, he believes that the tournament already achieved success in terms of the finances and also in terms of generating interest in the public. They are pretty much confident of the success of the new tournament.

“There has been overwhelming support from the game to make the transition from the new competition to The Hundred. Signing off the playing conditions is a significant moment. Another staging post before the player draft at the end of the year. There’s a huge summer ahead of us. Work is being done at the moment on the team identities,” Harrison said.

“It’s already a successful event. Now only in terms of just finances but the excitement generated. I’m very confident the game will get behind us. We’ve done a lot of work to understand concerns from fans. We’re listening to those concerns,” he added.

Here are the conditions:

—– End Change will be after every 10 balls.

—– Bowlers will deliver either five or 10 consecutive balls but are restricted to a maximum of 20 per match while each fielding side gets a strategic timeout of up to two and a half minutes.

—– A 25-ball powerplay will start each side’s innings, where only two fielders will be allowed outside of the initial 30-yard circle.

The identities of the eight teams involved in the first edition of the tournament will be agreed later this year. After that, a player draft is scheduled for the autumn. Well, it would be interesting to see whether the new invention gets success or not. Already a lot of world-class players signed to be present in the auction pool.
