Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 35 runs in the 41st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their second victory and ended their six-match losing streak in the ongoing prestigious tournament.

The Faf du Plessis-led team posted a total of 206 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, April 25. The Bengaluru bowlers showcased a dominant performance to restrict the opposition team to 171 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs.

Rajat Patidar was the standout performer in the recent match, scoring 50 runs off just 20 deliveries, including two fours and five sixes. Virat Kohli added 51 runs from 43 balls, while Cameron Green played a cameo of unbeaten 37 runs off 20 deliveries, with the help of five boundaries.

SRH suffered an early setback as in-form batter Travis Head was dismissed for 1. Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, and Heinrich Klaasen fell within the power play. Bengaluru's Karn Sharma, Swapnil Singh, and Green claimed two wickets each, as Hyderabad managed to score 171-8 in 20 overs.

How Can RCB Secure a Playoff Spot in the IPL 2024?

The Bengaluru team recorded their second win exactly a month after their victory against PBKS. Fans on social media are pondering whether RCB can qualify for the IPL playoffs this season. There is a possibility of the Faf du Plessis-led team reaching the knockout stages of the tournament.

RCB must win all their remaining matches to have a chance at qualifying for the playoffs. The team will finish with 14 points on their tally if they win their remaining five games. Bengaluru could potentially secure the fourth spot without worrying about the net run rate if other results favor them.

For RCB to secure a playoff spot, they need the top three teams – Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and SRH – to finish strongly with 22, 20, and 20 points, respectively. Notably, these teams won't play against the Bengaluru team in the remaining matches of the T20 tournament.

RCB could make IPL history by being the first team to qualify for the playoffs with 14 points in a 10-team competition. However, the probability is extremely low. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have 10 points, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Gujarat Titans (GT) have eight points.
