Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly said the fourth England vs India Test was a fantastic one as England thrashed India by 60 runs to seal the series with a match to go.

The fortunes of the game swung from side to side but eventually the hosts came out on top. Both the teams had their chances throughout the game but in the end England managed to make their chances count. In the first innings, England were 86 for 6 but managed to recover and post 245.

On the other hand, India were 142 for 2 in reply but a collapse saw them getting reduced to 195 for 8. However, an unbeaten century from Cheteshwar Pujara helped them score 273 and take a slender 27-run lead.  In reply, England found themselves 5 down for 122 but their lower order once again made the difference to propel them to 271.

Thus India needed to chase down 245 to level the series.

India began the proceedings in a disastrous manner. Stuart Broad castled KL Rahul for a duck to set the tone for his side. And even before the visitors could recover from the early setback, James Anderson struck twice to put England well on top. He first trapped Cheteshwar Pujara for five before accounting for Shikhar Dhawan to leave India reeling at 22 for 3.

But before England could take complete charge of the game, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane revived India’s hopes with a century stand. However, the hosts restored parity when Moeen Ali dismissed Kohli at the stroke of tea to set up a frantic finish.  Kohli was out for 58 which ended the 101-run stand.

And as soon as Kohli departed, the floodgates opened as India soon found themselves seven down for 153. The seventh wicket all but sealed India’s fate as Moeen Ali dismissed Rahane for 51. Ravichandran Ashwin tried to delay the inevitable for a while but could not fight for long and became the last wicket to fall after scoring 25. India were all out for 184 as England won the game by 60 runs to seal the series.

And as soon as the game ended, Sourav Ganguly took to Twitter to hail the close game. He also had a word of praise for Kohli and umpire Kumara Dharmasena as he tweeted:

“Fantastic test match ..congratulations England ..virat kohli an absolute standout .and for me Kumara Dharmasena was fantastic in these conditions …best umpire @cricketsrilanka @BCCI @bhogleharsha”
