England Cricketer Sam Billings Suffers Injury Scare Ahead of the Ireland Series

The 12th edition of the ICC World Cup 2019 is only a month away, and things are only getting tougher for the host England. Three players have sustained injuries in three consecutive days, and the latest is their middle-order batsman Sam Billings. The young cricketer sustained a shoulder injury while fielding for Kent in the Royal London One-Day Cup. The injury has put his participation in the upcoming series against Ireland in jeopardy.

Meanwhile, Billings was in India plying his trade in the Indian Premier League for the Chennai Super Kings. He played only one match in the absence of MS Dhoni. In the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sam Billings managed to score only fours as Chennai suffered their first defeat of the season. Following that, he once again had to make way for Chennai skipper Dhoni. Yesterday, he went back to England to play for Kent in Royal London One-Day Cup for Kent to prepare for the upcoming one-off match against Ireland.

Much to his dismay, Sam Billing sustained an injury while fielding for Kent. The 27-year-old hurt himself while diving to stop the ball at mid-off in Cardiff. He was yelling in pain, and team physio had to give him oxygen in the field before he went out of the field in the second over of the match. Billings, who has been named in England’s ODI team to face Ireland but was not in the preliminary World Cup squad. It was a good opportunity for Billings to push his case for the World Cup but going by now he is not likely to play a part in the game. Although the final reports of the tests are yet to come.

Previously, World Cup-bound Joe Denly also suffered a back spasm while playing for Kent. Recently, Tom Curran and Jason Roy, who is in the world cup squad being injured while Alex Hales has taken an indefinite break
