England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan has mentioned what Alex Hales needs to earn his trust–to get back into the national side. Hales was suspended from the English team after failing a drug test before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Hales is having a splendid season with Big Bash League’s (BBL) Sydney Thunders. He has scored 568 runs in 16 innings for the Thunders this season.

Hales has had a fair share of experience with the national side. He has played 11 Tests with England and scored 573 runs at an average of 27.28. In ODIs, Hales represented England in 70 games and scored 2419 runs at an average of 37.79. Hales played 60 T20Is for England scoring 1644 runs at an average of 31.01.

Eoin Morgan Advises Alex Hales:

Morgan said, “Alex is in fantastic form for Sydney Thunder at the moment but his form has never been a question about him coming back into the squad. What happened prior to the World Cup last summer was a complete breakdown in trust between Alex and the team. The way back in for Alex is to try and rebuild that trust and that takes a considerable amount of time. We are in that time at the moment.”

Morgan also revealed that his prime focus is the two T20I World Cups in the coming years.

“I haven’t looked that far ahead [to the 2023 World Cup]. I’m looking at the next two T20 World Cups and I feel I have enough to say I hope to be here for both. Often when you make a decision to stay on longer it’s taken out of your hands,” said Morgan.

England currently plays South Africa in the 1st ODI at Newlands in Cape Town.
