Essex Takes a Dig at Surrey After County Club Confirms Signing of Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, on Thursday (May 3),  finally ended the suspense over his county stint. There were several reports emerging from the media regarding his desire for county stint.

So much so, owing to the speculations Kohli had expressed his wish of playing in England, there were also reports suggesting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was willing to make Kohli play the historic Test against Afghanistan.

But in the end, Kohli got what he wanted. The India skipper signed up for county outfit Surrey.  The India skipper will be available for all cricket throughout the month of June until the close of Surrey’s away game against Yorkshire.

Kohli will be looking to prepare himself well for the upcoming tough England tour scheduled later this year.

Arguably the best batsman in the world right now, Kohli had endured a wretched time when India toured England in 2014. India had lost the 3-1 and Kohli was one of the worst performers. He averaged just 13.40 in ten innings with a top score of 39.

The 29-year old Kohli, however, has completely transformed as a batsman since that disastrous tour. The reigning ICC Player of the Year averages more than 50 across formats of the game.

Meanwhile, the news drew mixed reactions from the cricketing fraternity. While many believe that Kohli will enhance the reputation of county cricket.

Precisely, many feel that Virat Kohli should not have been allowed for the stint keeping in mind the England tour.

On the other hand, another county outfit Essex had an interesting take on the signing.

As soon as Sussex announced the news on Twitter, Essex posted an interesting GIF, showing a man splashing the cash. It is very much clear that Essex wanted to take a dig at Sussex by indicating that they need to cough up a big amount of money after securing Kohli’s services.
