India have registered a whopping 318 runs in the first test against West Indies in Antigua. The second Test will begin from August 30 in Jamaica. Ahead of the second game, Ajinkya Rahane is confident of the team but not taking West Indies lightly, as every game in the ICC Test Championship is very important.

Rahane said India could not take the Caribbeans lightly. The middle-order batsman was excited about the World Test championship. Further, India vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane says scoring his 10th Test century after a drought of two years was special and he became “a bit emotional” after reaching the feat in Antigua.

West Indies, who beat England at home in a 2-Test series earlier this year, came up with an insipid show, especially with the bat as they were bowled out for 100 in the 2nd innings in Antigua. Rahane though stresses India are not going take West Indies lightly, considering the depth and quality in their squad.

We are really confident – Ajinkya Rahane

India are favourites to win the 2nd Test and finish their tour of West Indies with a clean slate. It remains to be seen if Holder’s men can spring a surprise to the visitors but if recent results are anything to go by, it looks unlikely.

“We are really confident about what we did in the last game but we have to be in the present. Cricket is a funny game. We can’t take it lightly, especially when the points system is involved. So we have to give more than 100 percent in each and every Test and each and every session. Hopefully, we can repeat our performance from Antigua,” Ajinkya Rahane said on the eve of the 2nd Test in Jamaica.

“West Indies is a positive team. They bat deep and they are a good bowling unit. As I said, we are not going to take them lightly. It’s important to respect them and important to play to our strength. We are focussed on starting off sessions well,” he added.

India crushed Jason Holder’s men in the first Test, clinching a record-setting 318-run win Antigua. The hosts were bundled out for 100 in the second innings following a spell of superlative fast bowling from Jasprit Bumrah who went on to pick his 4th 5-wicket haul in Tests. Currently, they are on top of the ICC points table of Test Championship.
