India’s captain Virat Kohli hasn’t done a bad job as the captain of the side. Kohli had led India to the final of the Champions Trophy and also to the semifinal of the World Cup. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has also done a good job whenever he has given leadership role by the team. In fact, the flamboyant batsman has led with aplomb and he has provided his inputs to Virat Kohli as the vice-captain of the side.

Here are the five reasons why Rohit Sharma should replace Virat Kohli as ODI and T20I captain.

Rohit Sharma has an impressive record as the captain of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. The right-hander has led Mumbai Indians to four titles in the Twenty20 League. On the other hand, Virat Kohli is yet to add an IPL trophy to his bag while leading Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Rohit Sharma has been able to get the best out of his players in Mumbai Indians. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma has maintained calm in the crunch situations of the big matches.

2. Wins in Nidahas Trophy and Asia Cup.

Virat Kohli is yet to add a big title to his name as a leader of the side. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma was able to take India to glory in the Nidahas Trophy as well as the Asia Cup in 2018. Dinesh Karthik had played a blistering knock of 8-ball 29 to help India get over the line in the Nidahas Trophy final against Bangladesh.

Rohit Sharma was right on the money in these two events and he was able to lead the team from the front.

3. Virat Kohli is yet to finalise the middle order.

India’s number four is yet to be locked in the last two years. The Indian team under Virat Kohli has tried oodles of batsmen at the troublesome position but they have not backed a particular player. In fact, no batter was given a long run at the position. India’s top three positions are secured but the middle order keeps changing like unpredictable English weather. Thus, it is crucial for Kohli to put his weight behind the particular set of players and give them time to groom.

Ambati Rayudu was backed to bat at number four before the World Cup. In fact, the right-hander had also done a decent job at the number four position. However, Kohli didn’t back Rayudu and thus he was dropped from the World Cup. Eventually, Rayudu decided to retire after he was ignored for selection despite two players getting ruled out in the World Cup. Furthermore, we have seen that Kohli has made a lot of changes to the squad selections and it is imperative to back a set of players.

The talisman backs his players to the hilt and he can a potential leader of the Indian team. Rohit gives space to other players to develop their game and he has done a good job whenever he has led India.
