Former India cricketer, Debashish Mohanty who played two Tests and 45 ODI has lodged a written complaint with the police alleging that someone has been uploading obscene and offensive material on the internet using his and his wife’s photographs.
The former right-arm fast bowler came into recognition in the 1999 World Cup when he finished, as the second highest Indian wicket-taker behind Javagal Srinath despite playing four matches less.
Mohanty made his international debut in a Test match against Sri Lanka in Colombo in 1997. However, he ended up playing just two Test matches for India. He made his ODI debut against Pakistan in Toronto in September in the same year.
Mohanty has impressive stats in the ODI format. Mohanty has played 45 ODI picking up 57 wickets at an average of 29.15
The former India fast bowler made the complaint with the cyber cell department at the police headquarters, Mohanty said,
“These vulgar things are appearing on the Internet for over two years now. In 2015, I had brought this to the notice of the state crime branch police and after that had ignored them completely hoping that good sense would prevail upon the uploader and they would be deleted from the Internet,”
A crime branch officer also confirmed Mohanty made a complaint,
“The complaint cell will go through the nature of the complaint. It will then submit it to the authority with the suggestions. Authorities will decide if a case is to be registered in this connection. Then it will be decided if to initiate criminal proceedings or not,”
