New Zealand have moved back to the second spot in the ICC Test Rankings after their crushing 2-0 win over India. The Black Caps thoroughly dominated the world number one Test side to sweep the two-match series at home. On Monday, the Kane Williamson-led side thrashed the visitors by seven wickets in the second Test to cap off the summer in fine fashion.

In the tough swinging conditions, India proved no match for New Zealand. Resuming the day on a precarious 90 for 6, India could add only 34 runs to their overnight score and were all out for 124. Trent Boult starred with the ball for the hosts, picking up four wickets while his new-ball partner Tim Southee accounted for three wickets. For India, Cheteshwar Pujara’s 24 was the top score.

In reply, New Zealand rode on fifties from openers Tom Latham and Tom Blundell to chase down the total of 132 without any trouble. Both the openers all but sealed the game for their side by adding 103 runs. New Zealand did lose three wickets in quick succession but it did not make much of a difference.

ICC Test Rankings:

With the impressive series win, New Zealand have moved back to the second spot while India continue to be at the top. The Black Caps had dropped to the fourth spot after being whitewashed by Australia in the three-match series in December-January.

Australia and England have dropped one spot to be on third and fourth spot respectively. India continue to be on top with 116 points while second-placed New Zealand are on 110 points. Australia have 108 points while England have 105 points. South Africa complete the top five.
