ICC Women World T20: Pakistan Penalised for Running on the Pitch

Pakistan Women team were penalized for ten runs for running on the pitch in their second match of the ongoing ICC Women World T20. India started their run chase on 10-0 after getting the penalized runs. Pakistan batswomen were warned in their batting innings in the 13th over for running on the danger area.

However, the Pakistan batters made the same mistake twice, which gave away ten runs to India. In the 18th over of their batting innings, Bismah Maroof and Nida Dar ran on the danger area which deducted five runs from their tally. Furthermore, Nahida Khan and Sidra Nawaz made the same mistake of running on the pitch to gift ten runs to the Indian team.

India was 10-0 at the start of their batting innings.

Pakistan skipper Javeria Khan had a long discussion regarding the same with the on-field umpires during the innings break. However, Khan went on to admit her player’s glitch in the post-match presentation.

“I had a chat with the umpires, they told me that our players were warned thrice and then the runs were docked,” Javeria said at the post-match presentation. “It was unprofessional on our part, after being warned, we still trodded on the danger area, it’s something we need to work on, it hasn’t happened for the first time, it happened previously during the Sri Lanka series as well.”

Meanwhile, India was able to cruise to a seven-wicket win. India’s experienced batswoman Mithali Raj was able to score a fine fifty to take her team over the finishing line. Harmanpreet Kaur-led side had won the first match against New Zealand by 34 runs. Thus, India looks all set to make the semifinal stage of ICC Women World T20.

India will play their next match against Ireland on November 15.
