India won the toss and decided to bat againat New Zealand in the first match of the ICC Women’s World T20 2018 at the Providence Stadium, Guyana.

Here is what the captains said:

Harmanpreet Kaur: We are going to bat first. The wicket is looking good to bat on. It might slow down later. We are playing with four spinners and later on it might help. We have one medium pacer.

Amy Satterthwaite: I think it’s an advantage in a way. We haven’t seen some of their players and they haven’t seen some of ours. It’s neutral territory and obviously neutral ground. We have to be positive. you have to go in here and make a bit of a statement. We are looking forward for the challenge.

Preview:

With an eye of improving their track record in World  T20, India open their campaign against New Zealand. In the five attempts, India have been unable to break the title deadlock at the World T20. Till date, their best result has been semi-final appearances in 2009 and 2010.

India, however, will take confidence from their recent show in T20Is. They defeated Sri Lanka in their home and also blanked out Australia A at home. In the warm-up matches to the World T20, India even defeated hosts and reigning champions West Indies as well as England.

What will further boost India’s confidence is their run in last year’s 50-over World Cup where they beat the likes of England, Australia and New Zealand to make it to the final.Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and coach Ramesh Powar recently said that the team has learnt from the final loss in last year’s World Cup. Well, the Indian camp will be desperate to start things on a positive note if they are eyeing another heroic performance.
